About Dr. Ramos-Esteban

Dr. Jerome C. Ramos Esteban is a board-certified ophthalmologist with extensive training and expertise in cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. He is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and advancing the field of ophthalmology through research and innovative treatment practices.

Dr. Ramos Esteban pursued his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, graduating in 2000. He has completed prestigious fellowships, including a Glaucoma research fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York from 2000 to 2001 and a surgical and clinical fellowship in Glaucoma at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, from 2005 to 2006. He also completed a two-year clinical and surgical fellowship in Cornea & Refractive Surgery at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, from 2006 to 2008.  He completed his ophthalmology residency at Yale University from 2002 to 2005.  His clinical skills encompass advanced cataract surgeries, including phacoemulsification, femtosecond laser techniques, and glaucoma procedures such as trabeculectomies and tube shunt surgeries. He is also well-versed in corneal transplantation, ocular surface reconstruction, and refractive surgery.

He is fluent in French, Spanish, and English, allowing him to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population.

Clinical Expertise

  • Cataract Surgery: Proficient in phacoemulsification and femtosecond laser surgery, utilizing monofocal, toric, and multifocal IOLs.
  • Glaucoma Management: Experienced in trabeculectomies, tube shunts, and the Hydrus Implant technique.
  • Corneal Surgery: Skilled in full-thickness penetrating keratoplasties and DSAEK procedures.
  • Refractive Surgery: Competent in LASIK and PRK procedures.

Dr. Ramos Esteban is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field, receiving various awards, including the Yale University Ophthalmology Resident Research Award.

Research and Publications
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Ramos Esteban has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics ranging from glaucoma surgical devices to refractive surgery outcomes. He has also been a manuscript reviewer for esteemed journals such as the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Personal Interests

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Ramos Esteban enjoys golf and has been an avid player since he was four. He loves cooking and cherishes spending quality time with his wife and four children. Dr Ramos Esteban also enjoys high-level LEGO constructions and enjoys spending time with his sons building and creating structures.
